One Parent's Hunt For Children's Bunk Beds

By Joyce Russell

Have you noticed that children's bunk beds seem to be becoming much more fashionable lately? With my own children insisting on growing at an astonishing rate it became necessary recently to go on a hunt for children's beds. I must admit that when I was a child I always wanted a bunk bed, but strangely enough it didn't immediately occur to me that a children's bunk bed would represent an ideal and very practical solution.

As I looked around at the wide range of children's bunk beds available I found that the first task was to choose which of the general styles to go for. My children were quite taken with some of the steel constructed bunk beds, and I have to say they do look quite striking and almost futuristic. There are also many beds available made from wood, with some of these painted in a wide range of colours and styles.

As we looked around at the bunk beds available one of the first things my children wanted to do was to climb up onto the top bunk straight away. I find it quite funny that normally I have such a difficult task trying to get my children into bed, and yet when out shopping the first thing they want to do is to get into the beds.

All children need a lot of space to play with their toys and games. The trouble is that if your children's bedrooms are small, having two beds in a room means having almost no floor space. A bunk bed immediately solves this problem, doubling the amount of play room available for your children.

I know that when I was a child I always wanted a bunk bed, but particularly it was the top bunk I wanted to sleep in. The top bunk feels unlike a bed - more a castle, a spaceship, a boat or some other place of adventure. Children have great imaginations, and anything slightly out of the ordinary will grab their attention. Children's bunk beds appeal, and make it much easier to get the little darlings off to bed at the end of the day.

Perhaps you have experienced the social blossoming that comes with children reaching school age. The requests for friends to stay over become more frequent and more insistent. Making up a rough bed out of a spare duvet and some cushions doesn't always seem right - but I bought a great little bunk bed which now means my children can have friends stay over whenever they like - and there will always be a bed available. I have to admit that this hasn't done my reputation much harm either!

I was quite surprised to find that there were some children's bunk beds which came apart so that they could be used either as two standard single beds, or a double bunk bed - whichever was most convenient. Not all of the bunk beds offered this flexibility, and although I didn't end up buying this type myself, I can certainly see how having the flexibility would be valuable if you have several children and combinations of rooms.

So which children's bunk beds did I go for in the end? Well, having looked in the shops I had a good idea of what was on offer, but ultimately I made my purchases online. I find buying online, especially for larger items, so much more convenient than trying to squeeze a bedroom into the back of a car. I used Cleverclicker.co.uk - they have a great range of high quality kids' furniture, and they deliver free - what more could you ask for? - 30224
