Christmas Presents For Children - That Aren't Toys!

By Michael Tan

December 25th is usually the happiest day of the year for many children. This date brings about a winter vacation from school, and it can also bring presents from almost everyone they know. Christmas can be even more anticipated than their own birthdays for many children.

With so many people already giving them toys, it is sometimes already a clich to be giving them toys again. But with their minds anticipating toys as Christmas gifts, it is often hard to find a non-toy gift that a kid will truly appreciate.

Read on for some ideas about non-toy presents that children will likely enjoy.

1. Educational computer programs

This is one avenue where they can have fun while learning. What is more, they will be able to hone their skills on the keyboard and in manipulating the various commands in the computer. There are actually a lot of titles to choose from. There are Disney games that are really educational. Puzzle games such as Wheel of Fortune, and Jeopardy are also great in developing the vocabulary and the knowledge in current events.

Another game that is really popular among the kids is Where in the world is Carmen San Diego. It combines detective work with travel and current events as well as math and word games. a definite plus to any kid's video game collection.

2. Craft Supplies

Another non-toy present that kids enjoy are craft supplies, which can usually be found in toy shops and at craft and art supply stores. These let children express their creative and artistic impulses, and they can spend their time learning valuable skills and making neat things.

You can choose between many different types of crafts. Be certain that you decide on a craft that suits the child that you are giving it toin terms of skill and age level. Don't forget that certain crafts might necessitate the cutting of items and sharp tools, so don't give these types of craft gifts to kids who stand to injure themselves.

3. A trip to the museum or to the zoo

Instead of giving them just another toy, you can give a child a day trip to one of their favorite places, where they can learn and have fun at the same time. A great Christmas gift for any kid is a trip to the zoo or to the Science Center or History Museum.

You should try to address their personal interests with your decision. If they love art, you can take them to a gallery, or if they enjoy the sciences, you can try a NASA museum or something similar. - 30224
