Which Lamination Type is Best?

By Brady Becker

Whether it's the fact that they prevent things from being damaged or the fact that they make papers and pictures look better, laminating sheets have some very obvious selling points.

Papers can rip, tear, be stained, or get ruined by a water spill. Additionally, papers and pictures tend to fade over time, and a high quality laminating sheet will help to preserve the color and the quality of that which is being covered.

There are essentially three ways you can go when buying a laminating sheet. Let's take a look at each to determine which may be the right fit for you.

First of all, there's the laminating pouch. This is basically a plastic case that you enclose your paper in. The advantage to these is the fact that they're reusable over time. On the other side of things, they're not as sturdy or firm as the other options.

Others prefer to go with self adhesive laminating sheets. They're cheaper than laminating pouches, and they look just as good. In fact, they probably look better since the adhesive qualities of the sheets leaves very little air between the paper and the lamination.

There are drawbacks to self adhesive laminating sheets, though. Unlike laminating pouches, they're not reusable. In addition to this, they can't be removed from the papers you attach them to since the adhesive is extremely sticky.

One more option that you may want to consider is a laminating machine. These are heavy duty items that make the job of applying lamination easier than any other. There's no sacrifice in the quality department, as these actually provide the highest quality lamination.

The price of a lamination machine is its only real drawback. While lamination supplies need to be bought over time, it's the up front cost that scares some buyers away. These will usually cost upwards a hundred dollars per machine, which may or may not make sense for your situation. - 30224
