Drop Side Vs Convertible Crib

By Halpert Jimbo

Build Quality - in the past this was one of the biggest issues, but today it is less so. A baby crib may be discounted in price, but it stills needs to stand up to its intended use and be fit for purpose. If at all possible, shake the baby crib. It sounds simple and obvious, but this is truly the most telling method to see whether the crib is constructed to a high enough standard.

Harking back to traditional American furniture styles seems to sit well with this Virginia based company. Unlike many baby furniture manufacturers, the company still makes its cribs in the United States using only the finest hardwoods and craftsmanship.

Bassett aren't going to be to everyone's liking. Surprisingly, the company has not come up with a broad range of designs. There are no European modern styles, like that found in Pali cribs. And, the designs, whilst being very traditional, lack the intricate and fancy detailing of manufacturers such as Munire Cribs.

I think it's important to check out the safety of cribs in hotels as well. As a hotel inspector in my former life, this was something we focused on. No adult sheets, make sure the mattress is secure with velco if it is that type (most are now so mattress doesn't fold over baby) and no tears in the netting. Also give it a good clean with some wipes and then rinse with a damp washcloth. You might want to consider a convertible baby crib if you don't see a lot more children in your future. A convertible baby crib can be converted into a daybed or a toddler bed once your baby gets too big for his crib. A nice benefit of convertible baby cribs is that you don't have the added expense of buying new furniture to accommodate your growing child.

The convertible cribs usually features static sides with no moving parts. At first the convertible crib is probably more costly than a drop side crib, but because it can be converted to a toddler, daybed, twin or full size bed in the long run you will be saving money as you will not have to buy a new bed and can still use the other pieces of furniture. - 30224
