The Versatile Bean Bags Chairs

By Chris Frost

Bean Bags chairs have been around for many decades now. There popularity first cropped up in the sixties, and seventies. It resumed in the early nineties, when companies started using more comfortable, and more expensive materials.

These versatile pieces of furniture have found favoritism in homes with small children, and in college dormitories. They are also found in in households prone to frequent large gatherings as they are easy to move around and store.

Bean bags chairs were made at first, out of pellets made of PVC and fabric. More recently, what the pellets are made of have changed, and raised the cost. They are now made of either polyurethane or micro-beads. Though cheaper ones are still available, the high end variety is more desirable.

The chairs started a trend in comfort when it comes to other things too. Not just the chairs themselves. Bedding and furniture are now made with the same type stuffing that is used in bean bag chairs. These items are sometimes called bean bag chair extensions. Even the family cat or dog can their own bean bag chair bed to sleep in. The possibilities are endless.

Production of the chairs is very simple. The polystyrene bead is usually in the form of sugar, which is then steam blown to expand it. Then it is stuffed into the fabric that is the bag. This material is also known as expanded polystyrene or EPS.

Sizes of the beads used to fill the bags vary, and depend on the material being used to stuff. A standard bead measure at three to nine millimeters. Alternately, you can buy micro-bead material for more comfort. That measure about one to three millimeters in diameter.

Many things that are stuffed eventually became flat and unsightly. Bean bag chairs are no exception to the rule. But chair lovers don't have to worry. Bags of stuffing refill are fairly inexpensive, and are easy to obtain. You can keep your comfortable chair lively for years. You can't do that so easily with a futon or couch!

Fans of the Bean bags chairs all have their names for them. Some call them Atomic Sac, physics bag or other creative names. Now over four decades old, this priceless piece of comfort is on it's way back in trend. It's used as soft napping place, or a gaming chair in some cases. No matter how it's used, one thing is for sure: The bean bags chairs is not going anywhere. - 30224
