How To Win Magic The Gathering Game

By Mike Wong

Today we are going to talk about Magic the Gathering Deck Building. We would discuss about the methodology of building a deck of your own that suits your strategies and style. So we are not giving deck examples here, but focus on how to build your very own deck. As I said there are infinite number of types of deck one can build, so the aim of this article is to give the reader a glimpse of the vast ocean of Magic the Gathering decks.

There is no upper limit for the number of cards that exist in a deck. And the number of combinations of cards is infinite. But all the decks do one purpose which is to defeat your opponent, to win the game and get the glory. So now we need to know the ways to win.

The first way of course is to damage the other players until his life drops to 0. The second method is to cause the other players library run out of cards. This method is not very common due to the difficulty and the limit card choices which can help achieve this. The third one is to poison the other players. Every player has a poison counter if they are poisoned. If the counter goes above 10, the player dies. This method is even more unrealistic because 10 poison counter is very difficult to get. Each planeswalker has 20 life counters. Creatures have power from 0 to 12, plus some X amount. But when you poison the opponents, you can only increase his counter 1 at a time. Not even 1 spell is able to increase poison counters. This method is not regarded as very practical.

You can pick whichever way you would like to use to defeat your opponents. But the majority of the Magic players out there uses the first method which is to decrease other players' life to 0. In order to do this, you can try one or more of the followings: 1. attack your opponents directly with spells. You must work your way out in order to achieve this because the creatures on the battlefield can be used to guard the players. And there are limited number of direct attack spells. 2. use your creatures to attack. This is the most common as it gives good results. 3. use spells to limit your opponent so that he can't cast his spells or attack you. 4. make his library goes out so the player has no cards to draw.

Although there're 4 different methods, when it comes to combat, usually a combination of those rather than one are used. - 30224
