Don't Be Mystified about Infant Car Seat Safety - Read This

By Frank Froggatt

The safety of your kid in a car seat is a life-threatening issue and many parents take that for granted. Many of us suppose that simply buying an expensive seat and buckling up will do the trick. I learned that this just isn't enough. This lesson really woke me up and made me really take a close look at all of the different kid car seat security procedures.

When my daughter turned 12 months old, I immediately turned her car seat to face forward. This is common procedure and I really didn't believe twice about making the change. Child car seat security wasn't a really big concern, as I just took it for granted that if I stuck my kid in it she would be safe.

I just simply made the assumption that because I knew how to put the car seat in facing the rear that it wouldn't be any big deal to figure out how to put it in facing the front. Who needs directions when they have already completed the task? By the results that I had, I guess I do need the instructions as was many other people who probably don't take car seat security as seriously as they should.

To my dismay, I found my 12 month old leaning to the middle of the seat while I was taking a sharp bend. This scene shook me to my foundation and I found myself stopping and taking a closer look at a way to reinstall the child car seat in the vehicle correctly. When I returned home I searched for the instructions manual so I could be absolutely sure that it was installed accurately.

I made one little error in the installation and this led to possible tragedy. Just thinking about what could have been the outcome of this simple error of being too lazy to follow the directions correctly brings a quake down my spine. After this ordeal I was inspired to find out some more on the subject. This research led to some discoveries about baby car seat safety that I didn't know. The first biggie was that if at all possible the car seat needs to be installed in the middle seat. I had my daughter's car seat in the back passenger side. Another thing that took me by surprise was the fact that children should always sit in the back of a car.

Another thing that I learned was that stores like Babies-R-Us provide programs for educating people on kid car seat security. Not only this but if you would like them to they also offer to install your youngster's car seat for you. This is a great way to make sure that your little one is safe and sound while you are on the road. - 30224
